How Therapy Can Help

Therapy provides a supportive and confidential environment where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, experiences and patterns with guidance from a mental health professional.

You do not need to be in crisis or have a formal diagnosis to benefit from therapy. People attend therapy for many reasons, including mental health concerns, relationship difficulties, daily stress, personal growth and major life transitions.

Emotional Well-Being

Learn ways to understand and manage anxiety, sadness, anger, grief, jealousy and other difficult emotions.

Coping Skills

Develop practical strategies for managing stress, fear, avoidance, overwhelm and difficult situations.

Relationships

Improve communication, listening, boundaries, conflict management and your ability to speak up for yourself.

Confidence and Growth

Recognize your strengths, build confidence and develop a more balanced and compassionate relationship with yourself.

Problem Solving

Explore patterns, consider new perspectives and build skills for handling challenges more effectively.

Meaningful Change

Identify your goals and begin making realistic, sustainable changes in your daily life.

What Happens During Your First Appointment?

Your first appointment is primarily about getting to know one another. You do not need to arrive with everything perfectly organized or know exactly what to say.

1

Share What Brought You In

Your therapist will invite you to discuss the concerns, experiences or changes that led you to seek support.

2

Discuss Your History

You may be asked about important relationships, family experiences, childhood, work, school, health or major life events.

3

Identify Your Goals

You and your therapist will discuss what you hope to gain from therapy and what meaningful progress may look like for you.

What You Can Expect From Us

Compassion, empathy and respect
A supportive and non-judgmental environment
Time to speak and feel heard
Evidence-informed strategies and information
Practical tools you can use outside therapy
A personalized plan based on your goals

You Can Ask Questions

Your first appointment also gives you an opportunity to learn about your therapist and decide whether the relationship feels like a good fit.

You are welcome to ask about your therapist’s approach, experience, recommendations, confidentiality, session structure or anything else that would help you feel informed and comfortable.

Is Therapy Confidential?

Therapy sessions are confidential. Information discussed with your therapist is not shared with others without your written permission, except where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

Legal and professional exceptions may apply when there are serious safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, or when records are required through a valid legal process.

Your therapist will review confidentiality and its limits with you as part of the informed-consent process.

Before Your Appointment

Complete Your Forms

Review and complete any intake and consent forms sent to you before your appointment.

Consider Your Goals

Think about what you would most like support with, while remembering that it is completely fine if you are unsure.

Arrive or Sign In Early

Give yourself a few extra minutes to arrive, settle in or test your virtual connection before the session begins.

Important Time-Zone Notice

Appointment times may default to Mountain Time. Clients booking from Ontario should confirm that the booking page is set to Eastern Time before selecting an appointment.
