Self-Esteem & Identity Counselling

How you see yourself can influence nearly every part of your life, from relationships and boundaries to the choices you make and the opportunities you allow yourself to pursue.

We provide supportive counselling for teens and adults struggling with low self-esteem, self-doubt, identity concerns, comparison, people-pleasing or difficulty feeling confident in who they are.

Therapy can provide space to understand where these patterns developed, challenge beliefs that may be holding you back and build a stronger, more compassionate relationship with yourself.

You Do Not Need to Have Yourself Figured Out

Identity is not something everyone develops once and carries unchanged through life. Relationships, parenthood, career changes, culture, aging, loss and major life transitions can all shift how you see yourself. Therapy can help you explore those changes without needing to arrive with all the answers.

Understanding Self-Esteem & Identity

Self-esteem is more than simply feeling confident. It includes the beliefs you hold about your worth, abilities and place in the world. When those beliefs become overly negative, even successes or reassurance from others may not feel convincing for very long.

Identity relates to the way you understand yourself, including your values, relationships, roles, experiences and sense of belonging. Therapy can help you separate who you genuinely are from expectations, labels or patterns you may have learned to rely on.

Our Approach

Our therapists use a client-centred, trauma-informed approach grounded in evidence-based and evidence-informed practices.

Counselling is collaborative and tailored to you. The goal is not to turn you into a different person, but to help you understand yourself more clearly, strengthen self-compassion and build confidence in living in a way that feels more authentic to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can therapy actually improve self-esteem?

Therapy can help you identify the experiences, beliefs and patterns contributing to low self-esteem, challenge unhelpful self-perceptions and develop new ways of relating to yourself. Change often happens gradually as these new patterns become more familiar.

Is it normal to feel like I do not know who I am?

Yes. People may question or redefine their identity at many stages of life, particularly during adolescence, relationship changes, career transitions, parenthood, loss or other major changes. Counselling can provide space to explore this without pressure to immediately have an answer.

Can counselling help with people-pleasing and boundaries?

Yes. Therapy can help you understand why saying no, expressing your needs or disappointing others feels difficult. You can work on developing boundaries that protect your well-being while still maintaining meaningful relationships.

Do I need a diagnosis to come to counselling for self-esteem?

No. Low self-esteem, confidence concerns and questions about identity are common reasons people seek counselling and do not require a formal mental health diagnosis.
