How Online Youth Counselling Can Help

Online counselling gives young people an opportunity to speak openly with a trained mental health professional from a familiar and private environment.

Depending on the youth’s needs and goals, counselling may help them:

  • understand and communicate their emotions
  • develop practical coping and regulation skills
  • manage anxiety, stress, and unhelpful thinking patterns
  • build confidence and a stronger sense of identity
  • improve communication and relationship skills
  • navigate school, family, and social challenges
  • process difficult experiences in a supportive setting
  • develop healthy strategies that can be used outside of therapy

How Online Counselling Works

Sessions are provided through a secure video platform and can be attended from home or another quiet, private location in Ontario.

Before each appointment, the youth should have access to a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a space where they can speak privately without interruption.

Online counselling can make support more accessible for families living outside major cities, youth with busy schedules, or young people who feel more comfortable beginning therapy from their own environment.

Parent and Caregiver Involvement

Parent or caregiver involvement will depend on the youth’s age, circumstances, treatment needs, and applicable consent and privacy requirements.

Parents and caregivers may be involved during the intake process, in treatment planning, or through occasional check-ins when appropriate. The therapist will explain confidentiality, consent, and the limits of privacy at the beginning of counselling.

Our goal is to respect the young person’s privacy while helping families support their progress and well-being.

Our Approach to Youth Counselling

Our therapists tailor counselling to each young person’s needs, personality, developmental stage, and goals. Treatment may include approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, emotion regulation strategies, strengths-based therapy, attachment-informed therapy, and trauma-informed care.

We focus on creating a collaborative relationship where youth feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their counselling.
